I hope consolidating this info will save some of you no small amount of time and effort by not having to reinstall the relevant game because you applied patches you shouldn't have.

Platinum and Universe Edition: SF1 does
not need patching!
If unsure then check your version number (found on the main menu screen) against that of available patches. If it is the same or higher then you do not need to patch.
Note: If playing the Order of Dawn or Breath of Winter with any version after 1.38 (basically any game with SotP installed), please be aware that any character whose level exceeds 30 cannot be imported into Shadow of the Phoenix (SotP). In vers 1.38 or earlier you cannot exceed L30 since that is the cap.

SF2 Gold and Universe Edition
Do not install patch 1.02, it's already included.
Installing patch 2.01, even though you are using ver 2.01, will cure the camera bug. Or you could still do this manually instead, just follow the link to info on how to above.
-------------------------------------
Please note that all patches only take effect when you enter a new map. Due to the way that each game saves it means that reloading a map from a saved game uses pre-patched data so any problems fixed by the patch will persist. Therefore, it is recommended that you always keep a saved game from the end of the last map.

Any problems, please visit the respective tech support forum and ask for info there, though it will be far more expedient in many cases if you check for existing info first, paying particular attention to the sticky threads. Since many people actually miss those, they are the threads that for your convenience are prevented from sliping down the forum so can always be found at the top, prefixed "
Important".
