While the board software catches many bots and we remove the rest as soon as possible, some have developed a new strategy you should be warned about. They are not posting publically but instead private messaging users with their spam. This means we don't necessarily spot them in order to ban them.

Therefore we ask that anyone hassled by such a message forwards it to a moderator, so we are aware and can ban them. To forward a PM, click the "forward" button at the foot of the PM and enter the name of the relevant moderator in the address box.

I'm sure that you're aware of the type of messages this applies to but a recent one tried claiming that the recipient of the message had a virus and should therefore visit the site they were advertising. Probably a good way to get a virus so be warned that following unknown links could be harmful to your computer, or worse.

I've noted that a variant on the above is a spambot that posts claiming to represent officials on this site. It's rather obviously a scam but best we warn you in any event.

Always be wary of links sending you off-site, especially by any username you don't recognise - these bots are always new users and though some don't post immediately upon signing up, all have low post-counts; how low depending on how much spam they managed to post before getting banned. Also remember that anyone speaking in an official capacity for this site has a coloured (not white) username.
